CMR engineering services keeps World Cup on track in Sao Paulo

Suppliers to the global transportation sector are seeing the benefits of CMR's engineering services to ensure major projects are delivered on time and to budget. The Expresso Tiradente monorail currently under construction in South America will become an extension of the Sao Paulo Metro Line 2 and will have, when fully equipped, the capacity to transport 48,000 passengers per hour, per direction between the conurbations of Vila Prudente and Cidade Tiradentes. This journey currently takes almost two hours and investment in the new monorail system will see this reduced to approximately 50 minutes, benefiting 500,000 users daily.

This major new public transportation scheme is being built as part of the country's investment in infrastructure ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

One of the leading companies closely involved in the multi-million pound project is a UK-based producer of electrical motors, generators and power electronics, which has secured a contract to supply new units for installation on the trains and carriages that will carry passengers on the monorail.

And to support this contract, the company has turned to CMR-UK's Newcastle upon Tyne-based operation for electrical wiring services including embedded engineering expertise.

CMR has delivered five rail transport programmes so far worth more than £1m, with further potential projects in the pipeline.

CMR's engineering team has worked from the start of the project to design and deliver a customised solution featuring advanced new wiring harness configurations for the new assemblies that will be used to control the distribution of power around the trains and carriages.

The work to deliver the new harnesses will be undertaken over three years at CMR's Silverlink manufacturing facility, helping the company to develop its growing presence in the public transport sector where its engineering expertise, technology and innovative approach are delivering real added value for customers.
